A rope team on the Hotlum glacier

Crevasses like this one on the Hotlum Glacier on Mount Shasta present a hazard to climbers. Ideally, the rope team would be perpendicular to the crevasses to protect from a hidden crevasse covered with snow. Here, if Tim punched through to some unseen crevasse, the rope would catch his fall....but if he decided to jump into the crevasse we see...I'm not sure that the rope would do much for him.
