Climbing Shasta at Dawn

On our final day, Nettie and I made a bid for the 14K foot summit from out 12K foot base camp. While we were well acclimated, felt in great shape, Shasta had some fierce winds and temperatures well below what we had expected waiting for us. Part way up one of the ice gullies on the Hotlum headwall, we started drilling v threads into the ice and began rapelling back to camp. The Hotlum glacier route to the summit would be outstanding. We'll come back when the weather cooperates!
